Gymnastic Club - A Few Consideration For the Sequences and Classwork

Consideration can be given to the linking of simple swinging and circling movements with the clubs. Particularly effective is the en masse display where a number of gymnasts perform a series of simple large swinging movements in time with each other, perhaps choreographed to some suitable music which will both assist in the synchronization and add to the entertainment.
A good piece of music for this is the James Last version of Winchester Cathedral, it provides an excellent rhythm and tempo for club swinging. In devising individual sequences, consideration must be given to the inclusion of all types of elements both with apparatus and body, but it is equally, if not more, important to build the sequence around the age and ability of the gymnast.
It is far better to compose a routine which the gymnast can cope with and can perform well, than it is to compose one beyond her limitations.

In a competition marks are lost each time a club is dropped, and moreover, the composition becomes disjointed, undoubtedly showing a lack of harmony between the apparatus and body work.
Changes of plane are also particularly important and must be evident, as well as the other factors concerned with general composition of an exercise. Emphasis must be places upon safety when working clubs with large numbers in the group. If there is insufficient apparatus to go round, then it is perfectly feasible for individuals to work with just one club each, in fact, this is probably more practical and beneficial in the early stages.
The coach must be aware of the amount of space that is needed for each of the exercises with the clubs. The swinging and circling skills obviously take up a lot of room, and if sufficient space is not available, then the class should be divided into two or more groups to practice these in turn.
